Jewelry handmade by a child. Seed beads, with their sweet little name, lend sparkle and intrigue to a hand-crafted jewel shaped by our 9-year-old daughter. She pressed the seed beads into modeling clay that envelopes one of her marble stones—her sparkly idea. But, these beads, stones, and play gems have given the children so many more pretend and imaginative play moments—
Seed beads come in a sparkling spectrum of color, fun for fingers to swish in before choosing the hues to use. The marble stone in the bezeled clay and beaded jewel came in a bag of many (they are aquarium stones, and can be found in pet stores). These stones, as well as marbles and the pink hued gems above and glowing in the sunshine of our son's eagerly offering hands, have played a part in so much of their pretend play. They have filled pretend treasure chests, adorned princess castles, played a part in pirate play, have been hidden and found again in the sandbox, and have been used as cargo on toy trains and trucks.
We treasure these open-ended playthings that offer never-ending imaginative play.
Find how we use them in bath time: water play ideas too.
