It began when my oldest was very young. I cut out construction paper hearts. Lots of hearts. Until I held a small pastel paper stack of them. And when I made a trail with these hearts and my daughter loved it so, I thought I would never cut another paper heart. So I kept that stack of pastel paper hearts. And every year our daughter has anticipated the trail of hearts I make with them. She eagerly awaits waking up Valentine's Day morning and following this trail winding all through our home, even more that she anticipates the small gift at the end. Because the end, is the end of the paper trail. And the fun is the following of it. So much fun. Now Little Sister and Little Brother love this trail so too.
And something I began on such a whim, such a simple something, has become such a special something.
Paper hearts, some wrinkled with wear from paper trails of years past. Reused year after year, reminding us of all the paper heart trails I've left behind for their anticipated find.
