Handmade all-natural lotion. Inexpensive. Quick. Fun.
Call the kids into the kitchen. The magical transformation of the water and oil mixture churning into our own homemade lotion is a science lesson in emulsification for the kids...and just plain exciting for them to help and watch.
I recycled glass jars—once filled with spices, vanilla, and honey—to store my handmade lotion in. These pretty vessels of lotion are handy in the kitchen and on my bedroom dresser.
This lotion is warm when just finished blending—it is a luxuriously soft and soothing treat to smooth on hands before it has cooled. This pure lotion also moisturizes your face, body and even lips.
There was enough lotion to share. I filled two little antique canning jars to give. A pretty and special handmade gift. A bubble wand is a spunky fun way to scoop out and apply handmade lotion (top photo), but a wooden craft stick or spoon works too.

Put 2 cups distilled water into blender, or large wide-mouth container if you will be using a hand blender. I found distilled water at a pharmacy and the remaining lotion ingredients at a natural food store.
Melt together 1½ cups oil of your choice with 2 tablespoons cocoa butter and 2 tablespoons beeswax (you can chop small chunks off of a 100% beeswax candle). You may also add vitamin E oil and essential oil, such as lavender, for fragrance if you wish.
Turn on blender with water. Very slowly add oil mixture as water is blending. It will turn thick and white. It may be lumpy as you begin to blend, but it will become smooth. Store at room temperature.
