Here it became clear. She is growing. Growing taller. Growing more independent. I saw this when I saw this photo later. Not through the lens as I took the photo. Then, I saw only her, and the beautiful shadows. The sweetness.
I saw her independence when I saw the photo later. And that she needs a stool—she's stepping in her clothes' basket.
Sometimes we notice when a dress is too short, a waistband too tight, shoes that are too small. A growing reliance on their own faculties to obtain, make, do, go where they want. Sometimes we don't notice at all. It passes before us in our busy-ness, our daily tasks, and then we say "they grew up so fast." So with some hugs I remember to hold tighter and remember to remember how they are right now and to savor this. Because whether I notice when a favorite dress is too small or I don't notice at all, our children are growing.
Reaching up. Growing up. The missing stool was just a reminder that she is. ©heather cahoon • wordplayhouse®
