If your child is home-schooled or off to their first day of school, offer gentle encouragement any day, the written way.
Creating notes for children is a sweet, tender way to let a child know they are loved and extraordinary. Here, you can share that their extra generosity, patience, courage or successes throughout the week were noticed. A special message will lIven up your child's school lunchbox or your home-schooled child's lunch at home. If your young ones are home-schooled, tuck a day-brightening note beside their plate at meal or snack-time, or on their pillow to be discovered at bedtime or upon waking. If your child's days are spent in a schoolhouse, brighten her school day with little love notes tucked into her backpack, lunch bag, or beside her after-school snack. This heart-warming addition to your child's school lunch or backpack is a connection from afar, offering bolstering encouragement, on your child's first day of school, a challenging day, or an ordinary day. Teachers can tuck these special messages in backpacks, cubbies, or on students' desktops. Any way you choose to share your message, a child will be giddy to discover it.
love letter ideas I've shared with our children:
a. I express praise and gratitude to our children if they were especially helpful or patient during the week.
b. I share a short inspiring quotes in the note. Once, I left sparkling words spoken by India's political and spiritual leader, Mahatma Ghandi. I later found our daughter had thoughtfully inscribed this quote in her notebook, to keep and revisit.
c. A little doodle, sometimes with scribbly help from our toddler, will make its way into an envelope for his sisters.
d. A funny joke or silly remembrance invites a smile, and is something fun to share with others around the lunch table.
e. An odd or fun fact to add to a child's arsenal of other impressing, miss-matched facts that children enjoy learning and sharing.
f. A photograph printed from our home printer often finds it's place tucked into a hand-decorated envelope. Photo reminders bring happiness with the thoughts of our family's shining moments together.
Our pile of love notes grows (above). Each time the stack of notes are read again, warm happiness ensues. Our children reminisce about the moment they received each one, their favorites, the funniest. A journal through letters. It's a special little surprise that costs very little, or nothing, and takes only moments of an extra special parent's, teacher's or grandparent's day. These special notes, quotes, drawings, photos, doodles, and letters are kept. But not so preciously that they can't be rummaged through. So love and thoughts can be reread again and again. Just as a love note often is. ©heather cahoon • wordplayhouse®
