A camping party. A special birthday party at home.
Our birthday child chose this unique birthday party theme. Camp outs (see hers here), camping and the outdoors are dear to her. So a camp birthday party became a memorably magical choice for a children's birthday party. And magical it was.
Above left: Campfire cupcakes, homemade crackers for s'mores middle: recycled tree made from paper grocery bags above right: hidden paper woodland animals for a forest birthday scavenger hunt and paper leaves hanging from a branch centerpiece.
Creating the birthday magic is as much fun as celebrating. Everyone on down to our two-year-old was helping mix up the magic in the homemade cupcake batter and graham cracker dough, cutting paper leaves, and filling canning jars with sand from our sandbox below right, for our grand entrance—a walkway lit with flickering candle light.
And what campout is complete without the entrancing flicker of firefly light above left? We've got jars filled with the likes of them, radiating a gentle, warming light.

[We had a campfire of course. A campout, camping, or even a camping party just wouldn't be the same without one. Besides, the flames were wonderfully warm on this autumn-y-brisk New York November evening.]
[We baked homemade graham crackers together before the party. Our firefly and tree-shaped graham treats were tucked in a brown craft paper bag with a giant marshmallow and chocolates. Our packets of s'more ingredients were ready for roasting marshmallows in our outdoor fireplace.]
[We sent the birthday guests on a stick scavenger hunt to collect their own sticks for roasting their s'more marshmallows.]
[Some fun is unplanned—the birthday girl and guests embarked on some nighttime apple tree climbing.]
[The firefly jars were filled with a strand of mini white holiday lights (fireflies). Then, labeled with some handwritten lettering and firefly flight lines.]
[For the candle camp lantern entrance, our young ones filled glass canning jars about 1-inch full of sandbox sand. White tea lights were place on top of the sand and lit just before the guests arrived.]
