Sometimes things done by hand are just a little bit sweeter. A little bit sweller. The warm smell of homemade bread and just-out-of-the-oven buttery softness. My dad's still warm pie and the cinnamon pie crust cookies made with them. The doll blanket my mom sewed for me when I was a little girl. My grandma's delicate handmade doilies. Our own garden. All good. All made by hand.
So, when it came time to do a drawing for the cheery in my kitchen giveaway, we shied away from the online automatic drawing site often use to randomly pick a winning name. We did it by hand ourselves. Because the giveaway was handmade. And, because, sometimes doing it by hand just is more fun.
photos above Little hands helped fold the entries—slips of names and comments of those had joined in by leaving a message in the comment section of the post. Comments were printed out, cut apart, folded, and put in a teacup. With a big, missing-one-front-tooth smile, one of our young ones drew a name— by hand.
