A couple of our children called out with utmost joy for me to see the biggest grasshopper they had ever seen. I set aside the pot I was washing. And, I went to see the little grasshopper they had discovered.
And, so it has been with so many longest worms, prettiest blossoms, and strangest bugs our children have brought for me to see. I have stopped to smell the flowers...and put their handpicked blooms in a jar.
Children notice the little things. And, they call to us to notice them too.
And, sometimes, they are the reminder to notice—their first smile, their first giggle, their next new discovery, and their outgrown shoes that remind us how big and how fast they are growing. Right now, I have a few young ones who remind me to notice. To slow down.
Because, those moments are fleeting. So fleeting.
But, I also have another one coming. My belly is blossoming with this little one, telling me with its eagerness of movement that its first curious gaze, upon all of us already here, will come soon. It is another reminder, like all of those others we hear so often from others who have been here before—
They grow so fast. Enjoy them while they are young.
The impending arrival of our little one reminds me to cherish the little things—Cherish this little one with our other young ones.
So, I am saying good-bye. So, we can say hello to the new little one we will meet soon. And, we can relish this special time—all the little things—with our growing family.
