Make newspaper pots! Make pots out of newspaper—easy to make, compostable, and free! Our 9-year-old shares how to easily make your own pots with her photos, above, and her instructions, below. Enjoy the joy of making your own seeds and garden grow in your own handmade paper pots—share special together, growing time with your own children—
1 Cut a strip of newspaper slightly taller than your jar (the strip must be long enough to wrap around your jar and generously overlap).
2 Wrap your strip tightly around your jar, so your strip is even with the bottom of the jar but extends higher than the top of the jar.
3 You will have excess newspaper at the top of the jar. Fold the extra newspaper into the mouth of the jar.
4 Slip the jar out carefully, and flip the newspaper form over. Smoosh the bottom of your jar into the newspaper pot you have just made to form a flat bottom for your pot.
5 Remove the jar, and fill your finished newspaper pot with soil and seeds.
Teacher tip! Use this newspaper recycling project as an Earth Day project idea too!
